The Risk Management Process
Why Emergency Risk Management? (ERM)
Emergencies in Australia cause great damage to property and even greater economic loss through damage to infrastructure, crops and livestock. Emergency Risk Management is an important part of a communities ability to identify what risks exist within the community and how these risks might be dealt with to minimise future harm to the community. As part of any ERM process it is imperative that all community stakeholders are identified and consulted when developing measures that reflect the ERM project being conducted. Through the development of related mitigation initiatives, the community is then able to work towards reducing the consequences and/or likelihood of further emergencies in order to develop a more sustainable community.
FESA have produced the Western Australian Emergency Risk Management Guide to assist Local Governments who are participating in the ERM process. In addition, EMA have a similar document available for download.
